Skyland Trail Launches New Group to Support Mental Health
Atlanta, GA – Skyland Trail, a nationally recognized nonprofit mental health treatment organization for adults and teens in Atlanta, launched a new membership group for emerging philanthropic community leaders interested in supporting mental health and Skyland Trail. Through a series of social events and networking opportunities, members of the new Trailblazers group will raise funds for the organization and introduce friends and colleagues to the mission and work of Skyland Trail. Kwynn Everest and Alison Blue have been named as 2021 Chair and 2021 Vice-Chair for the Skyland Trailblazers
Each year, the Skyland Trailblazers will select an area of need or opportunity at Skyland Trail to support. In 2021, funds raised will be directed toward the Mark C. West Financial Aid program at Skyland Trail, which increases access to mental health care by awarding need-based financial aid scholarships to cover a portion of treatment costs. In 2020, 45 percent of clients in intensive treatment programs at Skyland Trail received financial aid. Due in part to the Covid-19 pandemic, applications for financial aid awards are increasing. Skyland Trail awards more than $1.5 million in financial aid each year.
“Not only does Skyland Trail provide an all-encompassing path to mental health, they help educate and lead groundbreaking research and discussions around mental wellness,” said Kwynn Everest, 2021 Trailblazers Chair. “We want to model giving back—through volunteering and charitable giving with Trailblazers—so that organizations like Skyland Trail can thrive for generations to come.”
The Trailblazers Event Series will start as virtual gatherings and, in the future, will include activities such as social hours, yoga classes, sports games, and more. Some events will provide education on mental health topics from experts at Skyland Trail.
The first Trailblazers event of 2021, a virtual sip and learn featuring Skyland Trail psychiatrist Adam Meadows, MD, will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Registration is free.
