Third Annual Skyland Trail 5K Run/Walk Unites Community in Support of Mental Health
ATLANTA – On Saturday, September 14, 2024, Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health treatment organization for teens and adults, held its third annual Skyland Trail 5K Run/Walk. About 200 individuals gathered at the J. Rex Fuqua Campus to show their support for mental health treatment, including former clients and families, students, and corporate teams.
The 2024 event raised over $60,000 through individual and team fundraising in addition to corporate sponsorship. Proceeds will support financial aid for clients and families and mental health treatment programs and services.
In addition to raising funds for Skyland Trail and bringing awareness to the need for evidence-based mental health treatment, the 2024 Skyland Trail 5K Run/Walk also served as an official qualifier for the 2025 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race. Medals, which were created by adult clients participating in art therapy groups, were awarded to the winners of various age and gender groups.
When asked about the power of community to support those with mental illness, Sarah Roberson, a Skyland Trail alum, said “I think the community plays a huge role and can do more as a whole. With mental health, it’s holding the space, listening, helping them find the right resources that they need, and helping erase the stigma around it–that it’s okay to seek help.”
Skyland Trail thanks the generous sponsors for their support of the 2023 Skyland Trail 5K Run/Walk. City of Chamblee and ZWJ Investment Counsel served as the presenting sponsors. Gold sponsors included Enewton Design and Northside Hospital. The bronze sponsor was Riley’s Wish Foundation. Media sponsorship was provided by WABE.
