Learn more about Trudy Farkas, RN, Lead Nurse at the Skyland Trail J. Rex Fuqua Campus for Adolescents.
How do you think the field of mental health treatment has changed since you’ve been involved?
“When I first began as a psychiatric nurse in 1989, psychiatry was different. Hospitals were almost like vacations for some and respites for many. Insurance benefits financed extended stays and services, unlike treatment now that moves rapidly.”
Who inspires you?
“My Grandmother has been quite an inspiration in my life—a guardian angel teaching me treasures many years after her death. She would tell me if I felt lonely or blue to reach out and help others”
What would you tell your 16-year-old self?
“To give of your heart will create a space for you to receive that gift in return, creating a beautiful internal balance.”
What’s one way you practice self-care?
“Moments in nature, time with my dogs, listening to music, and spiritual meditations are some of the ways I replenish myself to maintain a centered life.”
What’s your favorite part about working at Skyland Trail?
“Working at Skyland Trail has provided a new opportunity to give to the adolescent population. This generation of young people are so bright, creative, and sensitive and filled with such pain. To provide a safe and loving environment is our purpose in the nursing department. It is an honor to be a part of this healing community.”
