FEES & INSURANCE

Estimating Your Financial Responsibility

Total treatment costs depend on the level of care required and the number of days needed to complete treatment. Most clients use some combination of private pay and insurance benefits to cover the costs of program fees and professional services. Medicare and Medicaid do not cover our services at any level of care. As a nonprofit organization, Skyland Trail offers financial aid awards to eligible client families to help reduce private pay costs not covered by private insurance.

In-Network with Private Insurance

Skyland Trail treatment programs are in-network with many plans offered by:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Carelon Behavioral Health
  • Cigna
  • ComPsych
  • Magellan
  • Optum/United Behavioral Health/Oscar Health
  • Humana Military / TRICARE East*.

Families with plans offered by other private insurers may be able to use their out-of-network benefits to receive reimbursement for a portion of program fees.

*TRICARE plans cover all eligible adolescent clients. TRICARE plans are in-network for adult residential treatment for adults ages 18-20 only. TRICARE plans cover adult day treatment and IOP program for adults ages 18 to 26 who are covered dependents and adults 18+ who are primary beneficiaries.

Financial Counseling

Skyland Trail provides up-front financial counseling for each client and family. A number of private insurance companies cover Skyland Trail services; however, as with other health treatment, understanding how insurance companies authorize benefits can be difficult. Insurance does not typically cover the entire cost of the program or the recommended length of stay for a full recovery. Our financial counselors can help you estimate your overall financial responsibility. Financial counselors also can help identify opportunities to reduce private pay costs through financial aid if eligible.

Financial Aid Program

Through the generosity of Skyland Trail donors and friends, we offer a financial assistance program to help clients and families who meet need-based financial criteria. While we ask all clients to cover the costs of a portion of their treatment, the Skyland Trail Board of Directors has committed to distribute at least $2 million through our financial aid program each year. More than 35 percent of clients receive financial aid awards to reduce private pay costs not covered by insurance.

The full costs of a residential mental health treatment program depend on daily program fees, professional services costs, insurance coverage, financial aid availability, and total length of stay.

As a nonprofit organization, Skyland Trail offers a financial aid program. Eligible families who complete a financial aid application and are approved for an award receive a percent reduction in private pay costs.

Financial aid awards may also help reduce costs uncovered days during pending insurance authorizations or transitions in level of care.

Medicaid does not cover Skyland Trail programs or services.

Medicare does not cover Skyland Trail programs or services. Clients with medicare plans would be required to private pay for treatment and services.

The full cost of treatment depends on:

  • length of stay at each level of care (determined by clinical team for each individual)
  • insurance coverage and continued authorizations
  • financial aid awards if applicable
