Skyland Trail Awarded Georgia Center for Nonprofits ‘Revolutions’ Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Organization

ATLANTA — Skyland Trail was awarded the Revolutions Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Organization at the 18th annual Georgia Nonprofit Summit May 12.

The Revolutions Award recognizes revolutionary leaders within Georgia’s Nonprofit sector and celebrates them-while inspiring and motivating others.  The Revolutions Award serves to acknowledge, recognize and honor individuals and organizations that demonstrate the following: 

• Revolutionary Leadership

• Creation of positive, transformative change within their organization or communities and
• Measurable, positive outcomes from this change

Skyland Trail received the prestigious honor for its innovative ‘recovery communities’ and its on-site primary care clinic.  Skyland Trail’s five recovery communities were created by its clinical staff in conjunction with its expert National Advisory Board.  Under this model of care, Skyland Trail assigns each client to a community of 10 to 15 people with similar diagnoses.  This approach allows clients to focus on the most important aspects of their recovery processes.  The primary care clinic is helping to bridge the gap between mental and primary health care, an issue that has plagued Americans with mental illness for decades.  Both programs are wholly unique to the Atlanta community.

Other winners at the luncheon included popular singer/songwriter Usher (Emerging Philanthropist), Ingrid Saunders Jones, the Senior Vice President of Global Community Connections at the Coca Cola Foundation (Legendary Philanthropic Leader), and Christina Lennon, Executive Director of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation (Outstanding Nonprofit Leader).
