Participants will learn about different strategies and techniques to improve their relationships with a loved one suffering from mental illness

September 28 6:30pm - 8:30pm Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT Aaron Kilts, Psy.D, Primary Counselor, Skyland Trail. CBT is a clinical approach to managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and bi-polar disorders. CBT challenges clients to look at how one’s beliefs and behaviors contribute to theirs symptoms.

Learn more about what your family member is learning groups, recovery tracks, how treatment planning occurs, and have an opportunity to ask questions about Skyland Trail Programs.

October 12 6:30pm - 8:30pm Introduction to Expressive Art Therapy Susie Sherrill, PhD, Expressive Arts Therapist, Skyland Trail. Experience an art therapy session and learn how art therapy can be a useful tool towards personal growth, healing and recovery.

October 19 6:30pm - 8:30pm Thought Disorders Steven Lee, MD. Discussion of major thought disorders with questions & answers.

November 2010

November 2 6:30pm - 8:30pm The Myth of Mania: Understanding Bipolar Disorder Ray Kotwicki, MD, MPH, Medical Director, Skyland Trail. Dr. Kotwicki will detail the diagnostic characteristics of manic depression as well as medications, psychotherapies, and other tools to assist recovery

November 9 6:30pm - 8:30pm Spirituality and Recovery Rev. J. Adam Garner, MDiv, LAPC, Pastoral Counselor, Skyland Trail. This program will focus on the importance of incorporating spirituality into recovery of mental illness.

November 16 6:30pm - 8:30pm Medications, Q & A. Brian Teliho, MD. Learn about psychiatric medications. This discussion will primarily focus on questions and answers. Please bring questions.
