Skyland Trail Announces 2009 Family Support, Training and Education Program (STEP) Schedule

Atlanta (Jan. 7, 2009) - Skyland Trail announced today the schedule for its 2009 Family Support, Training and Education Program (STEP).

Skyland Trail's innovative STEP Program assists families and other concerned persons with knowledge and skills for self care as well as appropriate support for loved ones with mental illness.  STEP is open to any caregiver or family member engaged with an individual with mental illness, not only client families.

STEP 2009 begins with the seminar, ‘Managing Co-Occurring Disorders:  A Family's Guide,' presented by Skyland Trial Primary Counselor Anna Galloway, LMSW.  The seminar will focus on reviewing treatment options and supporting loved ones with Co-Occurring disorders.  Other presentations from the series include:

  • January 27-Laura Bauer Granberry, MPA, National Director of Initiatives at the Rosalynn Carter Institute of Caregiving:  ‘Building Cooperative Relationships'
  • February 10-Brian Teliho, MD:  ‘Thought Disorders-Understanding the Epidemic of Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorders.'
  • March 3-Ray Kotwicki, MD, MPH, Medical Director at Skyland Trail:  ‘Frontiers of Psychiatry-a Review of the Latest Research in the Psychiatric Field.'
  • March 10-Skyland Trail Alumni and Their Success Stories

Skyland Trail is a community-based non-profit organization that offers hope to adults with mental illness by teaching them the practical skills they need to lead productive and independent lives.  We provide a unique curriculum of innovative services, tailored to the individual clients, to improve mental, physical and social well-being.  Programs are offered in Atlanta on three campus-like settings and are led by a team of caring professionals who are specialists in their fields.
